Tim and I have made a video replay of scenario T2 ‘The Pumas Prowl’. Short on time, we invented (at least I think we invented) SPASL (Speed ASL). We each get 7 minutes to complete our turn. Teaching ASL: I have been thinking about helping new players learn the game by moderating some matches on VASL. I will not be giving strategy advice (until perhaps the game is over), just helping with the rules and procedures. All participants will have to be on Skype. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with SK rules but perhaps there is someone who is that would like to moderate some SK scenarios.
I have been hinting at something big in the world of dice towers that is coming your way before too long. Tim Brieaddy and I have the first sample finished and it will be on display at the ‘Where the Iron Crosses Grow’ team ASL tournament is about five weeks from now. I am putting the finishing touches on the ASL tabletop that I am making for Andy Hershey. This design is based off of the PzIIIJ, made of Walnut (which is the same wood used for M1 Garand stocks). I made a second table with the same specs out of Brazilian Cherry pictured above . Tung oil, the real stuff not the fake stuff sold at Lowes, was used to finish the natural wood. I could not believe the color once the finish was applied. The table top is modular with the side trays attached to the main board with strong magnets which allows it to be packed up into a 28″ x 28″ square. The lining is black micro-suede. The Plexiglas (not shown in the photo) is 24″ x 24″ x 1/8″ Lexan and will fit 3 geo boards in any direction. The table picture above will be posted for sale in the ASL store as soon as it is complete.

New Pricing Structure: I have been trying to find a way to add value to the smaller orders. So starting February 1st, most of our items that we stock will be marked down at least 10%. AAR:
I spent Saturday at the War Table first playing Ray Woloszen in FrF79 Saving the Center. I played as the German against Ray’s Soviets. I was unable to clear his nasty 6-2-8’s out of the buildings and with most of my guns and MG’s malf’d because of that darn severe winter +2, I threw in the towel early to save the lives of my brave cardboard troops. I think I was more afraid of shooting at him than he was of being shot at.
Just as Ray and I were finishing up, Tim Brieaddy came over and we decided to finally a scenario from the Time on Target series. I set up as the defending Americans in ToT10 ‘Winter Wonderland’. Tim was quite happy to get to play with 2 Brumbars and even got a hit on my mg nest with a 30 flat. But lots of arty and a couple of hidden 57L guns was enough to keep his tanks and troops at bay. It turned out that on ROAR this scenario is very heavily favored for the Americans on (41:7) so not quite a fair fight. Had we checked first, we may have done some Pleva bidding before starting.

Woodworking:
Lately I have been having a hard time justifying the time spent making ASL wood products like tabletops, dice towers, and map cases commercially. In the past I only made them as gifts for my friends or people who I thought would really appreciate them. I just finished one table top for Keith DuPont and he stopped by last night on his way back to Ohio and I realized that my reward wasn’t in the small profit that is made but in meeting wonderful people in the hobby that I may have never met otherwise. It made me very happy to see the expression on his face when he saw the table for the first time and told me how excited he was to get home to play his first game on it. That really was my reward. That being said, I am not sure if I will continue to make these products for sale for much longer as it is a tremendous amount of hours for each piece. I still have two more tables and a tower that I have committed to and then I may take a break for a while.
OBA Cards:
My inventory on the OBA cards is getting low. Scott at GA is sold out. Xavier probably has some left for his customers on that side of the pond and Alex may have some left as well. I will be bringing 10 to Albany for Chris at Battleschool in Canada so he may have a few sets that aren’t reserved that he can sell. I do not foresee these cards (in this complete version) ever being reprinted again so if you want them, contact one of us before they are gone.
Sniper/ELR cards:
CALL FOR HELP: The Sniper cards are coming along very well with the toughest part now getting quality photos of snipers from the more obscure nationalities. If anyone has a cool photo of a sniper that they would like to see in the deck, please forward it to me (I have already spent countless hours on Google and Bing so I am looking for rarer photos). I am in real need of the Allied/Axis minors, Japanese, French, and Chinese. Scopes are nice but not required.
The ELR cards are looking great. It is amazing how quickly you can run out of room on a card when you start brainstorming ‘what would be useful information’. As is his signature, Andy Hershey is turning a good product into a great product with his tireless proofing and editing.
These cards should be up for pre-order as soon as we get an accurate idea of the size and cost of the project.
Now only days away. My first time attending and am blessed to have my best friend Tim Brieaddy making the 11 hour drive with me. If that isn’t fantastic enough, my Dad is meeting us there so I can drive him back to NC for Christmas. I am looking very forward to the coming days. Armies of Oblivion in stock at Ritterkrieg
After discovering that AoO was out of stock at MMP and entering indefinite pre-order, I wanted to let you know that I still have a couple of copies tucked away. I am offering these at regular retail, not Out-Of-Print extortion-Bay pricing but I want them to go to actual players, not re-sellers so there is a maximum of one per buyer.
Picking up that last counter on the bottom has always been challenge for some of us. To make matters worse, in a game like ASL where the contents of a stack are often concealed, leaving a counter behind offers valuable recon to your opponent. So if you aren’t going to use (insert shameless plug here…) Stack Guards, then we naturally need a set of tweezers designed for the 21st Century.
I really liked the grip, size, tension and overall performance of these new tweezers. The only drawback I find is their inability to pick up a counter which is laying on it’s side (eg. sideways in a Plano divider). In my humble opinion these are a must have for counter dense scenarios and games (OCS comes immediately to mind).
International Shipping Rates Explained:
I would like to take a moment to explain our process for International shipping calculations. On every order outside of the USA, we charge a nominal $80 shipping as a starting point. The actual shipping costs will vary depending on weight, destination, prefered declaration with insurance value, and carrier. If the actual shipping costs are less than $80, we refund the difference. If the actual shipping costs are more than $80, we contact the buyer with the option of paying the balance or getting a full refund. If there is another way of doing this where the costs are transparent up front, I have not found it yet. Although Ship Station (Paypals sub for shipping) does offer this option, not only is it a completely different total when it comes time to purchase the label, but it does not have an override for value/insurance. Please note that I will always work with you within my means to bring you these products safely landed at your doorstep for the lowest possible price.
Pre-Orders Explained
There are three ways I know of that companies take pre-orders.
You pay for it now and wait months/years for the product to be manufactured and shipped. This ties up your money and is a little risky if the store goes out of business (not mentioning anyone by name).
You order and provide your CC information. Then long after you have forgotten all about it, your wife opens the nasty little surprise on you CC statement that of course is sandwiched between the roof repair and the transmission on your Ford Focus.
Ourpre-order method: You pre-order the product now and when we are within a few weeks of shipping it to you, we send you an invoice. At that time you decide:
a. Pay for it now and as soon as it arrives at our store it will be on it’s way to you with Free-Shipping*.
b. Pay for it later (your pre-order is reserved and guaranteed at the pre-order price for a full year after release**) and at that time it will be on it’s way to you with Free-Shipping*
c. Don’t pay for it at all and simply ignore the invoice. In this case, no further action is required. Your CC has never been billed and you don’t owe any money or explanation.
Although the third method can tend to leave us with some overstock at times, I really feel that it is the most flexible and secure for the customer so it is the system we use.

Stack Guards Get a Facelift and a Small Correction
Complete ammo box with Stack Guards. In this example the 146th Tank Battalion with 76mm APCR that did sooooo much damage to my Panthers in Hatten 🙁Complete ammo box with Stack Guards. This example is the 101st SS Heavy Tank Battalion with 8,8 cm ammo.
It has been over a year since my son Lazarus designed and printed the first set of Stack Guards, there were two improvements that he wanted to address.
The first was quite a simple problem and easy fix. The 3 deep 5/8″ guard is included for use with 1 x crew, 1 x 5/8″ Gun, and 1 x 5/8″ concealment counter. The original hole on the bottom was slightly too big and the crew would fall out if the guard was lifted. This has been fixed.
The second improvement was to make them transportable. For this we needed an enclosed case. Soon he fashioned an ammo crate to store them but the problem of production cost and time made it hard to justify. The fact is that the case with the stack guards uses three times more plastic (making the cost of each unit over $10) and three times the production time (about 18 hours).
So we arrived at a hopeful solution. We will be offering the complete ammo box with cover and we will also be offering just the base of the ammo box with the stack guards for the original price. You can always add the cover later if you like them and want to make them transportable.
Markings on the Box: You can chose between different colors and nationalities for no extra charge.
Customizable? Yes, for a small fee you can customize your ammo box to just about anything you like from your favorite unit to your name to a photo of your pet.
As a last note, I want to thank all of you for encouraging him in his first venture into design, production and sales. He learned a lot that hopefully he will apply for the rest of his life.

Hatten in Flames CG1: After 5 bloody days in Hatten, everyone is dead, broken or so far out of LOS and range that these are the only units left that can have an impact on the outcome. It is the end of the German turn 6 MPh and the StuG just failed an ESB attempt causing it’s immobilization in a particularly precarious location. Good news for the Jerry’s is that they still hold on to 7 victory areas (6 are needed for the CG win). In order for the American player to win, he must take back control of both the synagogue (hex T7) and Eglise St-Michel (hex N7). What should the American player do starting with the German Turn 6 DFPh and every phase after to have the best chance at carrying the day and ultimate victory?

Solution to Contest #99
The solution to this one is pretty simple if you remembered one key rule that I often forget. The thick white box on the KV signifies that it is Restricted Slow Traverse. Because the AFV is CE, is is neither capable of firing it’s MA nor it’s CMG. Further, because it is behind a wall, it’s BMG is useless as well. So the tank can be completely ignored and the Sniper used on the Squad, ensuring the Italian victory.

This summer has brought the tragic news that Bill Sisler and Sam Belcher have left this world.
Dave Ginnard, a longtime friend of Bill eloquently wrote:
To all of my friends in the ASL and gaming community: scenario designer, ASLOK T shirt artist, and my great friend since before both SL and ASL, William (Bill) Sisler left us from cancer on May 31st of this year. Bill was the consummate ASL player and will be terribly missed by our community. RIP my friend.

On June 5th, 2021 the ASL world lost one of it’s greatest ambassadors. Sam was a generous, humorous (generally self-effacing) and dedicated person, who looked for EVERY opportunity to introduce and teach the game to new players, be it at a wargame convention, or a local meet up for the Puget Sound Advanced Squad Leaders (PSASL). Sam’s engaging spirit was infectious as was his good humored “trash talk”. Sam was a major figure in the Northwest ASL scene dating back to the 1990’s (those heady days when we were crammed into Metro Seattle Gamers in Seattle’s Ballard Neighborhood, or tucked in the back of Gary’s Games in the Greenwood Neighborhood). His leadership took many forms over the years; as Tournament Director at Enfilade for 20 years, and reinvigorating the somewhat dormant PSASL group in the 2000’s. Sam centered the group in a community common space in North Seattle where hundreds of non-wargamers were exposed to (and many became interested in) ASL. Sam would frequently pause his game and enthusiastically describe ASL to the interested person, no matter their level of knowledge about the WWII context of the game or board gaming. Many of you met Sam when he embarked on a tournament “spree” for a year after his retirement. Many kinds words and stories have been shared by those he met and played during that time. Sam would always joke about his poor winning record as a player, but we all know Sam loved the game almost as much as loved teaching it. When players would move into the area, Sam was one of the first to make contact and get them involved in our club. Sam also enjoyed woodworking and turned that passion into first class, unique dice towers. Many of you still have those one-of-a-kind towers! A few of us locals have wooden sniper # cubes and other small gaming aids he created, and one lucky player has an NWASL trophy with a wooden AFV counter base made by Sam! Sam was recognized in 2012 for his generosity and contributions by becoming the first recipient of the memorial “Hank Award” given at the Game ON! boardgame convention held yearly near Seattle. Sam remained active in the ASL scene right up until his passing, only recently beginning to hand the torch over for others to follow in his large, impactful footsteps. Sam Belcher’s priceless contribution to this hobby is evidenced by the dozens of active players that Sam took the time and patience to nurture over the last 2 decades. Sam recognized the “graying” of our beloved game and worked diligently to ensure its vibrancy for years to come. He will be sorely missed by many. RIP, Sam. You have done very well.

In my humble opinion, of all of the Battle Dice, these are the most useful and cannot live-without of the series. No more hours spent dividing and rounding before each attack. Now those of us that don’t have second grade math skills can play desert scenarios too!
